Another option for decorating the cookies is using edible markers or icing pens. Usually cookies are decorated with Royal Icing in different colors. Using a piping bag will get you the prettiest designs, but for our small cookies and for littlechildren’s hands, edible markers or icing pens are a great solution. The markers/pens make for very fine lines. Write your name or a letter or other fun effects using edible markers or icing pens.
Seeing as the edible markers and icing pens are ready for use, you don’t need any other tools. You can buy edible markers and icing pens in grocery stores, specialty stores and online. They are available in different colors. Dr. Oetker even has chocolate pens. So yummy and a fun effect on the flowers.
The markers/pens make very fine lines. The amount of icing that comes out depends on the brand. The brand that we used, quite a lot of icing came out, making it easier to color the cookies in one go. With other brands the lines will be finer and you’ll get a fun circular effect while coloring.
Outlining the cookies first with thin lines, makes it easier to fill in the rest with icing.
As you can see, using a fine marker, you’ll create a circular effect in the icing. This isn’t bad at all; it‘s fun.
The cookie is now done but needs to dry a bit. When the icing has hardened out, it won’t spread anymore. Enjoy your cookie!
